Depending on the cause of the system crash, the system may not have been able to reboot itself successfully. Cases where this would be true include:
Catastrophic hardware failure, such as faulty memory or a crashed disk
Major kernel configuration faults, such as a buggy device driver
Major kernel tuning errors, such as maxusers being much too big
Data corruption including corruption of the operating system files
Manual intervention is needed, for example, fsck needing answers to its queries
If you just tuned your system and tried to reboot under the new kernel and the system panic’ed, you already have a good idea where to start your search for the cause of the panic. If you named your new, untested kernel /vmunix on your Solaris 1 system or if you directly edited /etc/system on your Solaris 2 system, you will most likely find the system in an endless boot and panic loop. Rebooting the “generic” kernel for Solaris 1 will get the system back up. For a Solaris 2 system in this scenario, you can use boot -a and choose /dev/null as your /etc/system file to return to a generic kernel.
When tuning systems and testing the new kernel changes, it’s a good idea not to use /vmunix or /etc/system until you know the changes are good. Instead, use /vmunix.test or /etc/system.test, for example. That way, should the system panic, at least the system will have a better chance of coming back up under a known good kernel. This is particularly sound advice if you are planning on going on vacation right after tuning a new kernel and booting it up.
If the system had been running beautifully for the past year, suddenly died, and now won’t come back up, you will need to read the messages that appear during the boot attempts. Look for messages that might point to hardware trouble. It would be a good idea to check all of the cables for proper connections. Also, make sure all the disk drives and other peripherals are still getting power. If everything seems to be in order, attempt to run diagnostics on the hardware.
On occasion, systems demonstrate sensitivity to their environment. With a workstation sitting on your desk next to your plants and your coffee mug, it’s sometimes easy to forget that computers are ultrasensitive electronic devices. Always remember:
Proper air flow is required for cooling the electronic components.
If the environment is much too hot for you, it is probably also too hot for your computer. Power down your computer equipment if you expect the air-cooling systems in your area to be shut down.
Unless protected by an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), your system can suffer damage during electrical storms and interruptions of power.
Dirt and dust inside some computers can lead to problems over time. Discuss with your vendor whether Preventative Maintenance visits are recommended.
Unless a system is designed to ruggedized standards, it can be damaged by high vibration and excessive movement.
Power down all components of the system whenever you need to do hardware repairs, replacements, or rearrangements. Don’t, for example, change SCSI devices while the system is running.
Electrostatic discharge will easily damage your computer. Never touch or let anyone else touch the internal workings of your system without proper ESD protection.

Getting your Server Location
Unfortunately unless you have a static IP with your internet connection, your IP address (and server URL) will change every time you connect to the internet, or your modem gets reset etc. To get your current IP (Internet Protocol) number do one of the following:
Windows 95, 98:
Start -> Run -> type in WINIPCFG when the window pops up use the top pull down menu to select the adapter you use to connect to the internet. I had an Ethernet [network] and PPP [dial-up] adapter listed, and by default everytime it’s sitting on the network adapter.
Windows 2000, XP:
Start -> Run -> type in cmd (this starts DOS/Command prompt). Type in ipconfig and you should get a short list of settings with your IP address displayed. (if you want to see a complete list: ipconfig /all but you don’t usually need that much info)
Now open the browser and type in http://your.number (like http://194.244.192.235). Now anybody can access your site by that number till your IP number changes (usually when you get disconnected from the internet it will change).
Now open the browser and type in http://your.number (like http://194.244.192.235). Now anybody can access your site by that number till your IP number changes.
Shortcut:
Well, unless you are using a proxy, your IP and server is 194.244.192.235
2.
Getting a Dynamic DNS Provider
If your IP changes each time you log onto the internet, you might consider getting a free Dynamic DNS provider. They work by giving you a static name like http://yourname.DNSprovidername.com. Then each time you connect to the internet, the provider will update so your URL will point to your ever changing IP number. This is a great service, and check out the Dynamic DNS primer for a better explanation of dynamic DNS, what it is, and how it works.
3.
LAN IP
If “winipcfg” or “ipconfig” from above returned a number that was in the 192.168.x.x range, that IP is your LAN (Local Area Network) IP. Only computers that are sharing your internet connection can access your server using that number. In which case you’ll need to setup your router/modem to forward your “outside” IP like 194.244.192.235 to your 192.168.x.x LAN ip.
4.
Router Issues
If you have a router or share your high-speed connection with multiple computers, you will likely need to log into your router and configure it to forward Port 80 to your computer. How you do that depends on your router. The basic info to get you started:
Manufacturer Login IP Default username Default Password
Netgear 192.168.0.1 admin password
D-Link 192.168.0.1 admin
Linksys 192.168.1.1 admin
Look for something under “Virtual Servers” or “Forwarding.” Type of info it typically askes:
Private IP: (enter your LAN ip. should be something like 192.168.x.x)
Protocol Type: TCP
Private Port: 80
Public Port: 80
If you still need help, check google or your router manual as I usually do not answer questions relating to this.
Note:
I’m looking for someone to help me fill out this section with a friendlier “how-to” as I currently don’t have time. If you are knowledgeable and are interested, let me know.

UBCD4Win is a bootable recovery CD that contains software used for repairing, restoring, or diagnosing almost any computer problem. Our goal is to be the most complete and easy to use free computer diagnostic tool. Almost all software included in UBCD4Win are freeware utilities for Windows®. Some of the tools inlcuded are “free for personal use” copies so users need to respect these licenses. A few of the tools included in UBCD4Win are paid for and licensed software owned by UBCD4win. On occasion we work with software companies/authors for permission to include their software in our download or have requested their software better support PE. Users can freely share copies of UBCD4Win with friends but selling UBCD4Win for a profit is not acceptable. We have worked hard for many years helping people for free with this project, others should not make money from our hard work. If you are a dialup user having a hard time downloading UBCD4Win, please visit our ordering page. UBCD4Win is based on Bart’s PE©. Bart’s PE© builds a Windows® “pre-install” environment CD, basically a simple Windows® XP booted from CD. UBCD4Win includes network support and allows you the ability to modify NTFS volumes, recover deleted files, create new NTFS volumes, scan hard drives for viruses, etc. Our download includes almost everything you need to repair your system problems. This project has been put together to be the ultimate recovery cd and not a replacement OS (Operating System). Please visit the “List of Tools” page for a complete list of what is included in the latest version of UBCD4Win.

This tutorial section deals with mysqldump which is a tool to import and export MySQL databases.
It can be used to back up a database or to move database information from one server to another.
1. Export A MySQL Database
This example shows you how to export a database. It is a good idea to export your data often as a backup.
|
Replace username, password and database_name with your MySQL username, password and database name.
File FILE.sql now holds a backup of your database, download it to your computer.
2. Import A MySQL Database
Here, we import a database. Use this to restore data from a backup or to import from another MySQL server.
Start by uploading the FILE.sql file to the server where you will be running this command.
|
Replace the parts in red with your own information.
This powerful, easy to use command has many uses. Let’s say you wanted to switch web hosting providers.
Simply export your data on the old provider’s server and import it on your account with the new host.
