Keyword marketing is the process of targeting customers by keyword. In terms of advertising, keyword marketing involves purchasing ad units, typically banners and text links, on the search results page of particular keywords. In terms of search engine optimization, keyword marketing involves achieving top rankings in the actual search results themselves.
Here are some popular keyword marketing software programs and services, with more coming soon.

I personally like gmail than any other webmail service in this world.
I was a regular yahoo mail user two years before, and i used yahoo messenger also. I am not blaming yahoo mail service, i don’t know the reason for this switching exactly, but i like gmail. Might be because of its simple chat, simple Ajax implementation, very simple look, etc . But the thing i want to disclose is not a mere comparison of gmail and yahoo, that is not my concern here.

Some additional features i expected while using gmail are HTML signature, customizing the view, labellings, theme , removal of ads , i am not revealing the climax of the movie here
but i got a mozilla plugin which does all the lagging features of gmail what i expected, and its name is Better Gmail (They could have put better name) .
You can download that plugin from here : Better Gmail
Screen shot:
Download the plugin and install and refresh gmail page after making any changes in the option. Put a better html signature with images , links etc like yahoo, customize your gmail as you wish.

(Tips: For 100% working of this plugin, you need to switch into older gmail version)

Here is a brain dump of my Google AdWords tips in no particular order.
1. Not split-testing ads. Only using one ad. This is a big mistake because you cannot find out which ads will convert better without a comparison.
2. Split test two ads at a time to determine the winner. Some people like to write 4,5 or even 10 ads at a time and let them all run. I prefer to test two at a time to determine a clear winner. Wait for at least 100 clicks before deciding which ad is the winner.
3. New campaigns checklist – the defaults are: automatically optimize ads, search+content network, show ads evenly over time. When split-testing ads, set it to rotate ads evenly so that you can show each ad 50% of the time when you are split-testing 2 ads. You’ll need to uncheck content network if you don’t want your ads shown on websites running AdSense. Thirdly, set to accelerated delivery to show your ads as often as possible.
4. Use scheduling. If you determine that conversions occur on certain days more than others, you can turn off ads on days that you select. For instance, some people elect to show their ads only during the weekdays and turn them off during the weekends.

5. Use automatic bid adjustment. You can increase the bids during peaks hours that get you more conversions. For instance, if you want to target prime time in the west coast and east coast, you’ll need to set your time window large enough to encompass both time zones.
6. Tracking results – conversions, visitor behavior, time spent on site. This can really give you a deeper insight into your visitors behavior. I use both Google Analytics and Clicky (if you’re paranoid and don’t want Google to access your stats).
7. Separate search network from content network. One may get you better ROI than the other. It’s best to set up two separate campaigns to test this - one for search network and one for content network.
8. Separate Google search from search network. The search network are other search engines that syndicate Google’s search results, e.g. AOL.

9. Separate bids for the content network. You’ll get somewhat less targeted visitors from the content network as these are not people who are actively searching for the thing you’re advertising. In general, people who are actively searching for a particular product on Google are the closest to being in the ‘buying’ mode.

10. Use tightly themed ad groups. You’ll need to do this to get better quality scores.
11. Use smaller keyword lists within those ad groups. For example, if your ad group is focused on a particular model, you can use a group of keywords like “buy model x”, “model x sale”, “model x discount”, “purchase model x”, etc.
12. Set up a general ad group with a broad list of long tail keywords. Once you run the campaign for some time and get some history, you’ll be able to spot trends on which keywords are converting that you can either incorporate into other ad groups or start a whole new ad group for them.
13. Lower your bids by increasing your quality score. Use keywords/phrases on the landing page
14. Bid higher initially to build up CTR. Top positions get more clicks. More clicks mean higher CTR which in turn will lower your cost per click to maintain your ad position.
15. Don’t use superlatives. Avoid words like “best”, “latest”, “cheapest”, etc. They’ll get your ad disabled. Instead use “great”, “fantastic”, “top”, etc.
16. Target by language or country. I like to target English speaking countries since my products/sites are in English.
17. Test capitalization in title/ad copy. For example, “Get Whiter Teeth” vs. “Get whiter teeth”.
18. Use model numbers. People who are ready to buy are usually searching for more specific products and including the model name and number in their searches.
19. Mine for more keywords using External Keyword Tool.
20. Use “buy? phrases. For example, “in stock now”, “while supplies last”, etc.
21. Use negative keywords. Use a ton of negative keywords to get you better conversions. You don’t want to target people who are not looking for what you’re selling.
22. Use qualifiers. “For women only”, “For cats only”, “Over 18″, etc.
23. Make full use of the display URL. You can attach keywords to the end of your display URL, e.g. www.mydomain.com/special-offer
24. Test with price in title. Specifying the price will eliminate freebie seekers from clicking on your ads.
25. Test with price in ad.
26. Use site targeting. If you know of a particular site that is popular with your target demographic, you can target your ads on that site. For instance, there are a lot of forums focused on a single niche. These forums often show an AdSense banner (often 468×60) at the top. If you are marketing in this niche, you can use site targeting to attract more customers/leads.
27. Compare the results for broad/phrase/exact matching. One match type may convert better than the others.
28. Use AdWords Editor. Makes bulk editing of ad groups easier.
29. Use AdWords wrapper. Helps you build phrase match and exact match keywords from your broad match keywords.
30. Test singular and plural keywords.
31. Use social proof – phrases like “millions downloaded”, “rated 5 stars”, etc.
32. Space vs. no space, e.g. stockbroker vs. stock broker
33. Use misspellings. In particular, for words that are often misspelled.
34. Bid on URLs. Include “www.domain.com”, “www domain com”, “domain com”, “domain.com”, etc. in your keyword list.
35. Check your site logs to look for more “real? search keywords that are used by your visitors. Add them to your campaign.
36. Substitute symbols for words to save space. Use the & symbol instead of ‘and’. Use / instead of “or?
37. Be different. Scan your competitors’ ads. If they all have similar titles, go for something really different that will stand out.
38. Matched search words are bolded in your ads. Use them to your advantage.
39. Run reports periodically to monitor your campaign performance.
40. Use the reporting tool to see which content sites your ads appear on. If you use the conversion tracker, you can find out which sites where your ads are appearing are not converting and exclude those sites.
41. Use the most general keywords in your niche when targeting content sites.
42. Use abbreviations to save precious ad space.
43. Use scarcity keywords when appropriate – limited time, limited quantities, while supplies last.
44. Use enticement keywords – free, special offer, free trial, no obligation.
45. Adjust bids for individual keywords. You may find that certain keywords have a lot of clicks but lower conversion.
46. Find your sweet spot. #1 spot may not be the best for optimum ROI.
47. Read everything from the Google AdWords Learning Center.
48. Use position preference. Do this if you’re shooting for a particular ad position.
49. Rotate ads evenly when split-testing. See #3.
50. Use dynamic keyword insertion. In titles and/or in ad text. See #38. Use {Keyword: Default text} or {KeyWord: Default Text}. KeyWord will capitalize the first letter of every word.
51. Set daily budget high enough. If your budget is too low, your ads will stop running and you won’t get an accurate test of a 24 hour period.
52. Use placement targeting campaigns to target specific site sections. Read the help section to find out more.
53. Test image ads vs. text ads. Image ads work only on the content network. Attractive ads may get you more clicks.
54. Read the Google Landing Page guidelines.
55. Use geotargetting for local campaigns. If you serve a local market, you’ll waste money advertising to the whole country.
56. Try using numbers in the ad title/ad copy. Numbers tend to stand out and grab attention.
57. Use conversion tracker when possible. You’ll be able to figure our what your cost per conversion is for different keywords/ads.
58. Build up your campaign history. The word on the street is that if your campaign has a long history and good CTR, you’re more likely to get lower bids/higher positions.
59. Think like your potential customer. Get into your customer’s head especially when you’re brainstorming for keywords and writing ad copy.
60. Exclude content sites that don’t convert well. This is important if you’re advertising on the content network.
61. Add negative keywords over time as you discover them. As you continue with your keyword research, you may discover people searching for certain combination of keywords that include your target keyword but are totally unrelated to your product. Add these negative keywords to your campaigns.
62. Use third party keyword tools. With more keywords, you’ll cast a larger net.
63. Use Google Trends and adjust for seasonal products.
64. Use landing pages instead of direct linking. Direct linking will often give you poor quality scores. Learn how to create effective landing pages. Tweak them and test. Repeat the process to optimize your conversions.
65. Include keywords in your landing pages. You can either do this manually or by using php to dynamically include the search keywords on the landing page.
66. Use different landing pages. Set up separate landing pages for separate ad groups within each campaign. You can adjust the type of landing page depending on the type of keywords you’re bidding on. For instance, if one adgroup includes keywords like “review of product x”, then you can have a review type landing page rather than your normal landing page.
67. Ask a question. Questions work well in the title field. “Want To Be Rich?”, “Need More Time?”, etc.

SP3 is finally available for download.
Last week, DailyTech reported that Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP was released to manufacturing (RTM). At the time, Microsoft’s Chris Keroack noted that consumers should expect to get their hands on the update April 29.“We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center,” said Keroack last Monday. “Online documentation for Windows XP SP3, such as Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and the Microsoft TechNet Windows XP TechCenter, will be updated then. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.”
It appears that the time has come and everyone can now download SP3. A link to the 316MB service pack was posted on BetaNews yesterday afternoon. Although Microsoft isn’t yet hosting a download page for SP3, the download links directly back to Windows Update.
For those that haven’t been keeping up with the latest SP3 updates, the service pack includes roughly 1,100 hotfixes/patches and new features like Network Access Protection and Black Hole Router Detection.
SP3 will also give users even more incentive to stick with the venerable operating system which has soldiered on since late 2001. Many consumers and businesses have clung to the operating system despite the fact that Microsoft has heavily pushed its newer Windows Vista operating system.
Microsoft is hoping for a swift switchover to Windows Vista and has already announced a June 30 end-of-life date for Windows XP (with the exception of Windows XP Home for ultra-low-cost PCs. Some PC manufacturers, however, are using other methods to extend the availability of Windows XP for its customers.

With some new tools that have been released in recent weeks, I wanted to write an up to date post about the Top 10 Free Webmaster Tools that are available on the web. Due to the large network of sites I have, I always want to work smarter and not harder. I am always on the look out for tools that will save me time, money, or just lessen a headache. As a webmaster, looking to be at the top of you game, you need to be in the know when it comes to tools that are out there to assist you in your daily / weekly duties. I certainly wish I had seen a round up of some of the web’s top tools a few years ago that would guide me in to being a more effective webmaster. Let us begin with our Top 10!
10. Page Rank Prediction Tool - I am not a big fan or believer in page rank, but that is why I have this in the #10 slot. Many webmasters (especially those newer to the business) are concerned with page rank, thus a Prediction Tool offered by Rusty Brick is very popular. This tool will show you the current page rank for the URL you submit along with making a prediction as to what it will be when the next page rank update takes place. Another like tool that also shows your pagerank by Google datacenter will shed a bit more light and you can see all of the fun fluctuations during an actual Google PR update.
.

For the New Webmaster: You might be wondering what Page rank is all about, in simple terms it is an indication of a site’s authority or trust in the eyes of Google. PageRank isn’t just an indication of how many Web pages point to your page, it’s an indication of how important those sites that point to your page are too. Here is Google’s definition:
“PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.
Page Rank used to be much more respected, but people quickly learned how to “game” page rank and it went downhill from there. It got to the point where PR6, PR7, and PR8 links were being sold for big bucks even though they were “junk sites”.
9. Website Speed Tester - I know personally how much the load time of a website impacts the success of that website, and I have seen on more than one occassion where I have moved a site of mine previously under a high load to a new server with a lighter load and search engine rankings improve along with traffic. Here is a quote from a Guest Contributor on this blog, “The server was provisioned a few hours after I ordered it, and after about 2 weeks of testing, I moved my site last weekend. It’s only been a few days, but I’ve already noticed an increase in traffic, page views, and ad revenue. What does that mean? Simple: Slow Servers = Less Traffic, or more importantly, Faster Servers = More Money“. It is true that search engines and end users DO NOT like slow loading sites. A tool that I have found helpful in determining how fast my site loads is offered by iWeb.
If you find that your site loads slowly, there are a variety of things that you need to do to take action. The first two things I always recommend are checking the size AND number of graphics (images) on your pages. You should always have the WIDTH and HEIGHT attributes specified and you should never bog your pages down with numerous graphics, especially those that aren’t compressed and take forever to load. The second things you should consider is your hosting platform. Are you on a shared plan, taking the inexpensive route, where you can be on a server with dozens or even hundreds of other sites? The cost to upgrade to a better hosting solution is likely going to have a big ROI longterm. Don’t be hesitant to fork over the dollars now, when ultimately you are costing yourself money by waiting.

8. Web Design Color Scheme Library - I don’t know about you, but color schemes I like tend to be far from what most people like. That is why I am extrmely grateful that Color Schemer put together a color scheme gallery where there are pages and pages of awesome color combinations to use in a new site design. They are rated, easy to browse through, and downloadable when you find the scheme you like.If it wasn’t for a tool like this (or the fact that I outsource all of my design work) I would end up with a site looking like this! Instead of pure ugliness, my latest design piece (this blog) was built around the color scheme similar to this one.

7. Keyword Typo Generator - If you do anything in the PPC arena, whether pushing your own products / services or as an affiliate marketer, there are numerous reasons why keywords typos are important to your PPC campaign. This is one of two tools that Aaron Wall offers through SEOBook.com that I have in my top 10 list today. If you aren’t marketing for typo terms you are leaving money on the table. This is a whole other angle on the meaning of “long tail” and can really separate you from your competition depending on the niche you are in. The Typo Generator tool is quick and very easy to use, and you can basically pull your results, upload them into your PPC engine of choice, set your bids and go.

6. Backlink Monitor - For the longest time I would manually monitor the number of backlinks to my sites by using the good ole link: examplesite.com search in Google. As my network grew this became a tedious task that grew old rather quickly. This brings me to a very new Earners Forum Tool that both the backlinks and indexed pages in Google for an unlimied number of sites (Google API key needed). You can add your entire network of sites individually or through a bulk upload (whether it be 3 or 3,000) in to this tool and it will keep track of this data for you. All youwill do is login to the system, click update, and BAM! the data is updated and viewable in a very clean format. If you can imagine how difficult and time consuming it would be to manually monitor backlinks across 50 sites on a weekly basis, versus using this tool which would allow you in less than 1 minute to check your backlinks daily if you desired to do so. This is another must use!

5. Site Validator Tool - This is a well known tool to most web developers and even though I don’t dabble in the design / coding personally I know the value of a tool like this. Basically, W3C has developed this validator tool that will analyze your site and check Web documents in formats like HTML and XHTML for conformance to W3C Recommendations and other standards. This fantastic tool will show you line by line in your code what needs to be corrected. As you are going through and making changes to correct the errors, continue to come back to the tool and recheck things to see your progress. Also, if you outsource your coding work, you can use this tool to see if the coding work provided is within the normal standards or not. You need your site’s code to be as clean as possible, SO CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF!

4. SEO Firefox Plugin - I am no SEO expert, but I know a good tool when I see one. This is a tool that I have been using for many months now, and I really do like it. It has allowed me to look closely at my competition for specific keywords and see why they might be outranking me or why I am outranking them. It lends much towards showing clearly why the search engine considers the site to be an authority. This nifty webmaster tool allows you get to pick and choose which data you want to see about each search result including: Page Rank, Age, Yahoo Backlinks, Yahoo .EDU Links, Alexa Ranking, Technorati Ran, del.icio.us Bookmarks, and so much more. See the options menu for yourself here:

The SEO for Firefox plugin brings in so much useful marketing data to make it easy to get a clearer picture of the competition in your market, all from within the search results. This is one of my MUST HAVE plugins for Firefox!

3. Keyword Suggestion Tool - This is a brand new release and a must see. With the recent decline in usefulness of the Overture Keyowrd Suggestion Tool, WordTracker has hit the market with a free version of their keyword suggestion tool which shows the top 100 results, pulling in data results based on the marketshare of Dogpile and Metacrawler. This is a newly released tool that will certainly be a great benefit to many webmasters looking to do keyword research. It also gives a bit of a differnt picture since it using Dogpile and Metacrawler data versus Overture or Google. If you are still a fan of the Overture system, OvtKeywords.com will be a fun find for you with some cool ajax functionality and added Overture search features.

After I perform a search for “webmaster tools”, I get the results (up to 100) displayed in this fashion:

2. Search Engine Rankings Tracker - Due to the fact I am no SEO, I don’t spend very much time monitoring my rankings for top keywords on various sites in my network. The time I do spend recently was cut down to no time! Earners Forum came out with a tool that will allow you to track keyword rankings by site, showing graphs and trends of how the keyword is moving up or down in the search engines. With this tool you can literally add thousands of keyword / site combinations and track them with ease. The interface and layout are pleasing to the eyes and very easy to read. The data this tool provides can save many webmasters hours of manual labor.

1. A Free Blog - There are a couple of reasons this made my #1 slot overall. First, I feel like every webmaster should have a blog. Whether it is more of a personal blog for fun or something you plan to use to promote your business and even make money, I think you need to be doing it. Secondly, what Blogger and WordPress have done for the blogging industry is absolutely HUGE. These other tools are awesome and will save you time, headaches, and money, BUT the free blogging system these two big players are offering completely rock.
Wordpress is where my blogging all got started and here are some beginning steps to getting started with your new blog. You should first read about the many features of Wordpress (along with their jargon) so you know what you are getting before you begin. When you have a good understanding of the software’s abilities you need to determine if you want to host the blog yourself on your own domain or just use their free service at WordPress.com. Whatever you choose to do, you can then follow along using their support material to get your blog online so you can begin writing!

So, there you have it, my Top 10 Free Webmaster Tools list offering up to date tools for your webmastering needs. I certainly hope this has been a help to you and I wish you happy webmastering!
